Editorial Illustration for The New Yorker

The final assignment for the module Research and Concept Development was to create an image for a short story in The New Yorker. I chose the story Bozo, by Souvankham Thammavongsa. I wanted to illustrate the author's desire for a romantic relationship with a bartender and her specific dream to visit an aquarium with him and see the jellyfish and octopus.

I used a minimal colour palette but wanted the colours to be vivid and striking and resemble the colours that are in an aquarium and have a simple shadow of the couple observing the animals.

We were to present our work as a single image but also mockup the image onto the New Yorker website and instagram page.
